The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has announced the appointment of Sheikh Isa Akindele as its Vice President.
A statement issued by the Secretary General, Nafi’u Baba-Ahmad, indicated that this appointment was made following appropriate consultations and in compliance with the council’s constitution.
Naija News understands that on April 30, 2025, the council appointed Sheikh Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar as its new president, just two days after the passing of Sheikh Hadiyatullahi, the previous president.
In the statement, Baba-Ahmad said: “The Majlis ash-Shura is pleased to announce the appointment of Sheikh Isa Akindele as Vice President I of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria.
“Sheikh Isa Akindele’s selection reflects his deep knowledge of Shari’ah, unwavering commitment to da’wah, and decades of tireless service to the Muslim community in Nigeria. Kano Court Dismisses Ganduje’s Move To Stop Alleged Bribery Case

A Kano State High Court on Tuesday dismissed a motion filed by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, challenging the court’s jurisdiction to hear the 11-count corruption charge brought against him and seven others.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, who declared that the preliminary objections raised by Ganduje and his co-defendants were “incompetent” and lacked merit.
Justice Aliyu, presiding over the case, confirmed that the court had the authority to hear the charges, which include allegations of bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds amounting to billions of naira.
The judge emphasised the legitimacy of the case, stating, “The charges before this court are competent. The power to investigate criminal matters does not reside solely with the police. The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission is equally empowered under the law.”

EFCC Arrests Fred Ajudua

The embattled socialite and businessman, Fred Ajudua, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Naija News gathered that Ajuda was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday and is in the custody of the EFCC.
His arrest is in connection with an alleged $1.43m fraud for which the Supreme Court on Friday, May 9, 2025, ordered his remand after revoking an earlier bail granted him by the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division.
The apex court, in a unanimous ruling, held that the Appeal Court erred in granting bail and ordered Ajudua’s return to correctional custody.
The court also directed trial judge, Justice Mojisola Dada, of the Lagos State High Court, to resume hearing of the criminal case.

NNPC Remits Only 50% Of Fuel Subsidy Revenue – World Bank

The World Bank has disclosed that the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has not been remitting full revenue from fuel subsidy to the federation account.
Naija News reports that the World Bank also disclosed that it was in October 2024 that the federal government of President Bola Tinubu fully removed the subsidy, but NNPC started remitting the 50 percent revenue from January.
This was contained in the bank’s Nigeria Development Update report, released on Monday, May 12. The report said Nigeria’s fiscal outlook remains optimistic but hinges on the necessary consolidation of recent advances.
“It is essential to ensure that the full revenue gains from the removal of the PMS subsidy —estimated at about 2.6 percent of GDP in 2024—are transferred to the Federation. Despite the subsidy being fully removed in October 2024, NNPCL started transferring the revenue gains to the Federation only in January 2025. Since then, it has been remitting only 50 percent of these gains, using the rest to offset past arrears.
“Resolving any remaining net arrears and channeling the full benefits of subsidy reform to the Federation is critical for sound fiscal management,” it read.
2025 Budget Over-ambitious
The World Bank further faulted President Tinubu’s 2025 budget. It described the budget’s revenue expectations as overly ambitious.
According to the report, while the budget aims to boost capital spending, only fiscal discipline could help the government effectively implement the budget.
“Close monitoring of the 2025 budget implementation is essential, as it has overly ambitious revenue assumptions and may lead to a larger-than-anticipated fiscal deficit. The budget aims to boost capital spending, and this must be done sustainably, within the broader objective of fiscal consolidation to complement monetary policy and achieve an overall policy mix that maintains fiscal discipline and brings down inflation,” it stated.
World Bank urged fiscal discipline and transparency among governors and federal government to maintain the country’s optimistic development outlook.
“Sustained efforts to enhance expenditure efficiency and transparency are crucial to maximizing development outcomes. This responsibility lies not only with the Federal Government, but especially with states, which now receive more revenue (₦13.8 trillion in 2024) than the Federal Government (₦12.3 trillion),” it added.
